Things to do
On foot or by bicycle you can easily reach Montepò Castle, which dates back to the year 1100. The castle once belonged to the Lords of Cotone (giving the surrounding valley its name, “Valle del Cotone”) and later to the Sergardi family of Siena.
You can also pay a visit to Baccinello, where the skeleton of “Sandrone”, an Oreopithecus, was found in an active lignite mine in the 1950s.
Or you can visit Roccalbegna at the foot of Monte Labbro, in the Amiata region, and hike up the
mountain.
The site served as spiritual and gathering centre of worshippers of Davide Lazzaretti, the
founder of a mystical and social movement in the end of the XIX century.
Who we are
“Le mille lune” is a 10-hectare farm located in the Maremma region, in Tuscany, Italy.
The land comprises 2-hectares of olive groves, a 1-hectare vineyard, an area of arable land partly dedicated to a home garden, and 7-hectares of coppice wood.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 270 meters above sea level, the farm lies just 700 meters from the beautiful village of Polveraia.
The project aims to implement conservation agriculture, utilizing all agroforestry residues in a circular manner to enhance soil fertility (e.g., through composting, green manure, and permanent soil cover using organic mulch). Le mille lune è un’azienda di 10ha situata nella Maremma toscana.
We intend to preserve the existing biodiversity and to establish an agroforestry cultivation system.
The farm welcomes WWOOFers to participate in activities linked to the agricultural project
(excluding tasks requiring heavy machinery), such as gardening, composting, harvesting olives and grapes, vegetable cultivation, and more.
Future plans include offering a farm-to-table-dining experience and hosting events focused on
environmental themes and cultural integration, where guests can also sample ethnic cuisine.
